Rutherford Public Library, in partnership with the Friends of the Library of Rutherford, offers home delivery of books to patrons who are unable to visit the library in person due to long-term illness, physical disability, or mobility limitations. This service is available to Rutherford residents only.
To receive home delivery of library materials, patrons must complete an application form, which is available below or on paper at the library. The paper form may also be downloaded here and mailed or brought to the library. Patrons should phone the library at 201-939-8600 or email ruthcirc@bccls.org when they are ready for a delivery. Library staff will select up to five books at a time based on the patron’s interests as indicated on their application. If a specific title is desired, patrons may mention it when they call to request a delivery.
A volunteer from the Friends of the Library will then deliver the books after contacting the patron to find a mutually agreeable time. The volunteer will also take any books ready for return at the time of the delivery. Patrons should make every effort to return outstanding books when new ones are delivered. If they wish to renew a book, they must let the library know via phone or email.
Homebound delivery is restricted to print books in Rutherford Library’s collection that have a four-week loan period. Volunteers are responsible only for the pickup and delivery of library materials and are unable to visit with patrons. By completing an application, patrons acknowledge that they agree to the program’s Terms & Conditions, which are listed on the form.
