Mobile Hotspot

Library of Things Terms and Conditions

Eligibility: Items from our Library of Things collection are available to Rutherford cardholders, 18 years or older, whose accounts are in good standing. A maximum of one item, not including mobile hotspots, may be borrowed per library card at a time. There is a limit of one hotspot per household at a time. Patrons may borrow one hotspot and one other item concurrently. 

Availability: Reservations will be made on a first come, first served basis, up to 60 days in advance online, by phone, or in person at the library.

Loan Period: Items may be borrowed for 14 days with no renewals. A patron (or household, in the case of hotspots) may borrow the same item only once every thirty days.

Returns: Materials from our Library of Things collection may not be returned in the book drop and must be brought inside to the front desk.

Cancelation: Reservations may be canceled or rescheduled online, by telephone, or in person. Please call the library if canceling within 24 hours of your reservation date. 

Failure to cancel a reserved item will result in a “no-show” note on your account. Multiple “no-shows” will impact your ability to borrow items from the Library of Things in the future. The Library reserves the right to cancel a reservation if a “Thing” is not checked out within 24 hours after a reservation begins.

Late Fines: There will be a $10.00 per day late fee for most items. Hotspots incur a $20.00 per day charge if they are returned late.

Lost or Damaged Items: The cost for lost items varies and is specified when creating reservations and again at checkout. The charge for a damaged item will be determined by Library Staff. “Things” returned with missing components (e.g. cables, pieces, cases, etc.) are considered damaged and will incur a fee.
